im planning on removing a 500gb ssd that i dont use to put in an ITX build but ever time i format the drive windows dump some empty folders in it.
i dont want to remove the drive and the system not work as its a pain to get to that slot.

i have everything pointing to my C drive but windows still adds this ever time

if its windows 11 you have an option somewhere in the apps system settings to choose where to install things, like games etc. it sounds like in the past you may have set the options to use the d drive(whatever the drive is labelled) and on reformat its adhering to this; if you open up settings then go to apps, try to find the default install location and change it back to c drive. this should take care of it.

If its a sata ssd
See if your bios can disable that sata port
And see if something stops working
its m.2

That's one thing I hate about m2
Can't just disable in the bios
Especially as removing them isn't always easy
At least unless newer boards than my x570 can do it
Got 5 of them disabling individual drives
In the bios when I am messing around with stuff
I shouldn't would be very useful
