Whats Windows Media Center?

Is this a form of XP or a application for xp?
Seen it on my xbox and want to link the pc via this media center, but i dont think i have it, ive got xp pro.

any advice?

It's a tarted up version of XP with a Media Center application bolted on for good measure. You can't install it onto your standard XP.

Quite possibly, however that won't feed to a 360.

Very true. However if you want to stream to your 360 then I suggest you get the VLC 360 MCE snapin as it's superb! Lets you play DVD's straight from .iso or .img plus it use's far less system resources / clock cycles compared to transcode 360.

Mce is the same as pro, but doesnt have support for a network with a domain. Remember that you can only directly stream mpeg2 and wmv to the 360 not divx or xvid and you cant save the video/aduio to the xbox.
