So i have a Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850W PSU that has been giving me trouble since the day i got it.

First off, when i have it installed, there is a 50/50 chance that my PC won’t wake up from sleep mode. Sometimes it will be fine and other times, the fans will start up and the lights will come on but i get no display and have to hold down the power button to turn it off and boot up from cold. I've been running with a different PSU for about a month and haven’t had this happen once with the other PSU. As soon as I installed the Be Quiet again, it happened the first time i tried waking from sleep.

Secondly, there is an audible high pitched squeal coming from my PC with the be quiet installed. The noise is there constantly but sometimes changes pitch and gets louder if i load up a game. I then have to reboot to get the noise to return to its slightly less annoying quiet level. Again this only happens when the be quiet PSU is installed but i have tested it on its own with a paper clip and it doesn’t make that noise!

I'm assuming that this is a problem with the PSU itself but just wanted to make sure that it couldnt be anything else before i RMA it. The other PSU i have is an antec CP850 which has been faultless but is too big to fit in my current case.

Dark Power Pro (Aug 2009)

I've got a three year old 750W unit here that has displayed near identical symptoms since I upgraded my system last November. Said system conked out over the weekend and as I don't have any spares lying around I've ordered a replacement - which should be arriving some time tomorrow.

The high pitch squeal will be coil whine, found quite often in PSUs and Graphics Cards.

I think with both of those issues you should have a quite a successful RMA.

Update: it's here, it's in and contrary to expectations it's working perfectly. So the old one is definitely dead-ish.
