whats worth buying?

I have no idea what's out at the minute apart from cod4 and crysis.Going to pick up cod4. But what else is worth playing at the moment.

I'm more of an online player unless the game is unusual.

GOTY = BioShock, or also good are TimeShift, GOW PC.

Why not visit Gamershell and try a few Demos ?

Bioshock and The Witcher are the two best games I've played this year..

I'd nominate them both for GoTY, but unfortunately they're both SP only.

Portal, although fairly short, also rocked muchly.

Portal is exceptional-only two or three hours, but it is worth buying the Orange Box for that and TF2 alone!

COD4 is probably the best FPS I've played this year.

I enjoyed Bioshock. The Witcher was a bit hit and miss I've not tried the latest patch but the original game was desperately in need of it.

Nothing worth buying single player as ever ahem
As for multiplayer i would say supreme commander+forged alliance is very much worth getting and company of heroes if you don't already have it.
