My computer wouldn't power-up at all, so I though it was either the PSU or motherboard. So replaced the PSu, but no joy & returned it.

I have now replaced the motherboard, cpu & memory but the thing still won't boot up.

In the process I have stripped the wires from the power-on switch of my case, so have wired up the reset switch to the power on headers.

I wanted to test the PSU so I disconnected it from everything but one fan and connected the power-on cable (green) of the PSU to the earth wire. When power is applied the PSU works fine, but when it is re-connected to the motherboard it doesnt work.

So, is this a buggered PSU? Am I right to assume that I can use the reset switch to replace the power switch of my case?

Help! I can't spend much more money - do I try another PSU or new case? Or is there a free fix???

you might have a short somewhere.....have you got an extra motherboard retention screw on the mobo tray for which there is no hole on the motherboard ?

I'd do a paperclip test on the PSU.

Following that working, I would agree with Olly and you could probably have a short something in the case that is touching the motherboard and making the system no boot. You could try removing the whole computer from the case and booting up when not in the case, just put the motherboard on it's box with something non-conductive like cardboard underneath it, then short the power switch jumper header on the motherboard to try start it and see if it works.
