A couple of questions really.........

1. Why do video games companies have a problem with importing hardware when ultimately, whether their product is bought in the UK, USA, Japan or Mars they will still mak money from it?

2. If they are so against imports why make things like the DS and PSP bloody region free???!?!?!

1. Not sure if this is true. The price in Europe is always greater then in North America and Japan; not just for hardware but also games.

I dont know if they will make the same money or not. I would doubt it
Also it could damage the brand as the imported ones wont get the same level of service/guarantee as ones bought in the region, and people who dont understand the risks will be dissapointed.
Also it is depriving the regions it is released in of the consoles, there is a reason it hasn't been released, usually due to shortages.
It impacts sales on release, so the sales in the territory which is importing, when it is released the sales are down by that amount, which could give it negative press if it looks like its a slow start, showing in sales charts at positions 2 or 3 lower than it should be. Thus again damaging the brand.

Handhelds need to be region free because they are handheld, a lot of folk get them for going on holiday/long flights etc, so they go abroad and think bored of that game, want something new, so thats why they are region free.
Least thats the reasons i think about the region issues, doubt any of it is fact, but it the only reasons i can think of
