Whats wrong with my computer?

Hi,

I've just installed vista 64, however the computer crashes every so often while using the internet. No games have yet been installed.

I've had a look in the event viewer and it showed the following:

Description:
Performance power management features on processor 1 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

I have tried to going back to vista 32, but I still get the same problem.

I'm using forceware driver 169.25

Any help would be helpful.

Fingers crossed, if not....

Could be the bios of your motherboard has become corrupted.

Try a bootable CD with Memtest (http://www.memtest.org/), get a mate to make the CD for you. See if you can get through three test passes without any red on the screen.

Then....

Try a MOTHERBOARD bios update (check the makers website). Be warned, it could make it worse if your motherboard is at fault.

If that goes well, memtest again. Then windows. Beware, even if your fault has been fixed, the crashes may have corrupted some files on your HD & you may have to re install windows...
 
Disable power management in the BIOS.

If that doesn’t work, reinstall 64bit platform and leave off SP1 to see if it prevents it from happening.

I'm getting random shutdowns and google says to me that it's as a sresult of installing Vista SP1.

Yup incompatibility with power management, check to see if your MB has a BIOS update or driver update.

Be wary of the risks of updating your BIOS :)
