What's wrong with this 530d?

So does the data cost you or is it free (all paid for up front as part of some telematics pack)? Or do you have some sort of monthly subscription?

Would that work with an iPhone without tethering enabled, do you know?

As Fox says above why do you need an iphone connected to it, both have their own 3g/gprs connections. If you mean can you use the cars sim to download the data for the iphone then the answer is no.

The google maps location data is good on the E60 but what I find i use more is the BMW concierge service, where you talk to someone who finds the info out for you then sends the data to the car.

BMW connected drive(which is now both BMW assist and online combined and all data is included) is free for the first three years the car is registered, then after that its £120 per year. When my 3 years runs out I doubt I will be renewing it unless they will do a deal on it.

For personal use I think that is a bit steep at £10 a month, but for business use its just an expense that can be claimed.

Can you put your own sim card in? Maybe a PAYG with data allowance in?

No you can't I don't even think it's actually a sim card, just the TCU has the chip from a sim built in.

Reminds me of that trafficmaster rubbish on E39s.

My Father's company car had this in the past when I was 12/13 and it would read out traffic reports when you got near junctions. Then the subscription ran out, and I don't think a single person he knew renewed.

Why? It has its own SIM

iPhone obsession is out of control, we'll have people asking if they can use an iphone with a microwave next.

So I don't have to subscribe to the rubbish overpriced BMW data service.

Yes, I do enjoy them, but don't pay for them. O2 discounts mean a free 16mb 3GS and £22 pm. There's a whole selection of forums for this discussion, let's keep it to the car.

In other news, and back on the topic, does anyone else think the last picture in the series is the spare wheel just placed on top of the near side front?

No, of course its not, its a larger alloy in a completely different style.

Personally I would be suprised if this car is some sort of hidden bargain. It's an SE from a backstreet trader. Lovely.
