Hi Guys

Looking for some advice, a lady that I work with it with Sky and used to get around 2meg down and the other month it went to pot, I have changed her filters, plugged the router into the master socket and I still get the poor stats below.

She doesn't have a test socket as the BT one was swapped for a nice chrome finish unit, can anyone offer any advice going on the stats below please? I have changed the Sky router for a new one as well, also unplugged the SKY HD box and still the same poor performance :( the upload is better than the down which is madness... Help!

Downstream attn is very high, not good.Any problems on the telephone/talk side?noisy line etc?

Not that I know of, although I have asked her to dial the 17070 number later and listen to see if there is any noise?

If there is do you think that is a BT issue?

Many thanks

IF she still had the BT test socket you could rule out the house side of the connection, without a test socket...i dunno mate
I do not think you are supposed to remove the BT main socket so get some more advice before calling in BT if you /she has had it taken out/swapped for a different one as they may charge you
If there is noise on the line then i would say it could be a BT problem
Never mention the BB issue if there is noise though as they will probably just fob you off

Phone in to test socket no diall 17070 Quiet Line test..............................................................................................................................Quiet line test

Ok she did the test and said the line was silent :(

What do you think is best to do now guys? Was thinking about trying a different router?

By all means try another router,my line has gone from an attenuation of around 53 7 years ago to a pitiful 58/59 now.Reason for my drop has been cutting of the telephone main from the cabinet to my home(first the council cut through with a tractor hedge cutter then earlier this year the farmer ploughed through the line in his field)we are out in the boonies so BT put cable where ever they like under/in hedges and 6 inches under the ground in a farmers field...idiots

So has there been any damage to the cable you are aware of ?,not much you can do about it though :(recently?

I just want to remind you also if the BT master socket has been removed and you get BT into the house to check your line you `MAY`get a whopping charge as you are not supposed to mess with it
Can you put the old one back in?or source a new/replacement one?(It must be a genuine BT/openreach one with the logo on the front

Mind you sky hide your username and password so if you go for a different router you will have to extract this from old router first, look for guides on google
But sky `can` be fussy about using a non sky router,i.e. they don`t lik people doing this

Hi there

Yes removing the master socket was a bad move on her part as not having a test socket to plug into is a real pain.....

Sure I could get the username and password but wondering if it would be worth all the hassle....

Will have a chat with her about the master socket part

Thanks for the reply ;)
