Guys,
Am having a bit of a problem with a PC I am trying to fix.

Initially the PC booted up fine but ever since I removed the CPU it refuses to POST whatsoever. I dont even get any post error beeps.

The PC powers up but the monitor remains in stanby mode. I even bought a very cheap pentium 4 CPU as I thought I may have damaged the original one when I removed it but still no joy.

I have removed the memory but dont even get a memory detection error. Done all the usual stuff like removing battery reset CMOS etc..............
I have even tried a different graphix card

The spec is pretty old as it is one of my brothers PC's he wanted fixing.

Mobo - MS-6533 version 1.0
Processor - socket 478 pentium 4
it has a FSP 250w PSU

Is this thing KNACKERED or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would start by pulling it out of the case and systematically building it backup to begin with.If you have access to one try another power supply too.

You can safely rule out the CPU so obviously it is down to the motherboard, RAM, graphics card or PSU.

I would say that it is most likely to be the motherboard or PSU.

Well I fixed it:

It was the old processor that was broke.

What I failed to do when I initially replaced the new processor this morning was to push the vga cable far enough into the monitor socket

So a lesson to be learned here kids ALWAYS CHECK YER CABLES

:)

Indeed. The old throw up your hands, have a cup of tea. Then come back and then assume the machine you are looking at was put together by monkeys and everything needs to be checked. Remove banana. Post.
