Hi, my cousin's pc is playing up. Basically when I power it on, the cpu fan spins to an amazingly high speed and nothing gets outputted to the monitor. On the odd occasion it does post but within a couple of minutes it freezes.

I've tried a different stick of ram and have disconnected the optical drives.

Sometimes when you remove the ram it may post and emit beeps to indicate that there is no ram but often it doesn't post and the fan spins high.

I've also tried a different PSU aswell as removing the CMOS battery.

It's a optiplex gx260.

Is it the motherboard or CPU?

The fan keeps spinning at a very high RPM and it stays on.

It freezes when it boots up properly, the fan then is at normal speed. It just freezes then.

I'm thinking off ordering a new motherboard and case for them.

It cant be the CPU can it?

I had this problem with my shuttle. I sent it back to them. I don't know exactly what they did but it has been working ever since.
