Im recently been playing around with my girl friend's new digi camera after we moved in just recently into our new flat. :)

The Camera is an IXUS 40.

Ive taken the following photos at the highest setting, indoor mode (ive tried standard mode) gone through most of the options

The first one is without the flash and second with. The images are resized in good quality but its the same quality that came off the camera.

Just all the pictures either me or my girlfriend take seem really noisey or grainy. I used to have a Fuji film A303 which was so much clearer than this...

Is this just a setting or the Camera?

Cheers ;)

I'd imagine the indoor mode is setting it at it's highest ISO which i do believe is 400. If you read a few reviews on this model it seems this is it's particular trait. My wifes Ixux 700 is grainy as hell at 400ISO so it might just be compact canons. No issues at 50/100 or with flash. I've noticed the 40 there is still quite grainy with the flash. oh well. The fuji's i had before going DSLR were really good with noise hardly grainy at all so it could be your compairing the best with the worst.

You can lower the ISO setting to reduce grain, but the shutter speed will decrease meaning more chance of blur from camera shake.
To be honest at small print sizes and viewing on the screen the noise isn't a problem :)

i.e. - In the two photos you posted above the noise is almost untraceable.

The photo without the flash looks best - The flash kills all the colour.

Bit off topic, but nice case :o

Yeah, you also have the same DVD storage (tall glass unit) as I have in my lounge :)

Thanks for your replys. :)

But when I print the one without the flash for instance, its still very noticeable. I never had this problem with my fuji. Crystal clear prints. Its visable in all my girl friends photos. esp when its dark. Just spoils the photos for me. I never used any settings on the Fuji :(
