Excluding the hard drive size, it was pretty damn powerful when first bought and I remember when I first got it and played with a few things, my neighbour (who works with apples 24/7) was very impressed with it as when loading the little watch symbol was spinning so fast it was flickering. Still got it as the only thing I use it for these days is when I'm on the train. I still get loads of people admiring it due to its 1" thick titanium design. Always turns the heads

An Acer Aspire of some flavour (it looks like the 1410/1680 photo from the Acer site, but mine is at work so I can't check) that I bought about a year and a half ago for £400. Lots of crappy TV shows like Hollyoaks seemed to buy a load too as I see it quite often. It's a mobile Sempron and has a tiny HD, but I did bump it up to 2GB of RAM and now use it to run a MySQL server, Eclipse, etc. and for that much at least it runs nicely.

Edit: Also it plays Warcraft 3 with awesome pixelated graphics!

I'm quite surprised how many people have the 1710. I bought a second hand one recently, with the following spec.

Dell XPS M1710

Core 2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33ghz
2gb ram
100GB 7200 drive
17" 1920x1200 truelife
7950 GTX GO 512MB
9 cell battery
Vista Home Premium

It's a great laptop.

Nothing! Just sold my inspiron 6400 [6 months old] for £300. The hunt begins for it's replacement.
Why did you sell it so soon Carter?
After having a mates old-ish Presario 2500 to play with for a week or two, I'm now thinking of getting my 1st lappy in about a month or so when the price cuts come in, and it's the Inspiron 6400 I was looking at!!!

Weren't ya happy with it for some reason?

Vaio SZ series

1.66Ghz Core Duo
1.5GB RAM
80GB HD
12" screen, 1280x800
Integrated Intel graphics / Geforce 7400 Go

The spec isn't brilliant, but it's incredibly portable. 1.6kg weight + 2cm high + 5-hour battery life = :)
