I have noticed that some people either don't even bother playing campaigns for things like CoD or if they do they skip through every cut scene.

I just completed ratchet and clank and the story is great. Its not complex and I don't think there was a single plot twist but it made the game better. My missus had a play and just couldn't be bothered to watch them. She wanted to skip through and get on with the game.

She is the same with a lot of films. If it doesn't grip her in the first 5 minutes she is on her phone and basically just 'listens' to the film. Afterwards she is quite have to have a strong opinion on whether the film was good or not which I find frustrating.

Anyway, back to the question. Do you make sure that you immerse yourself in the game and everything the developer has tried to do with it or do you just want to get in there and get stuff done? Almost all of my favourite games and movies have a great plot, storyline or theme to them and I enjoy that part of it.

What kind of gamer are you guys?

If it is a story driven game like The Last of Us then I like to play it without headphones so my wife can watch and get involved, too. But to do this it has to have a good story. I never skip a cut scene unless I have seen it before (like when you die and it starts to replay itself). We have used this approach with many, many games and it is a great way to play and enjoy the game together. Recent games have been - all 4 Uncharted games from ND, Alien: Isolation, Until Dawn, TLoU, Tomb Raider reboot and sequel, Far Cry 3 and 4. If she is not feeling it she will just pick up a book or something (Dishonored).

With games like Destiny or Battlefield or Forza she is not interested (understandably) so I play with headphones on to immerse myself in that type of game and she will just read.

With films we generally give it half an hour (sometimes less if it's really bad) before we decide to continue or move on. We kind of always agree on what we do and don't like so we either watch it or we don't.

Yes! So much I've replayed most games like Uncharted endless times and never skipped a scene. Love the Batman games for this reason.

Fun .If the game isnt fun to play then i loose interest .To many games these day seem like a chore ,go to this place collect this thing the go miles to the other side of a map to collect another thing then back again .

What he said, thats what it boils down to. If for any reason its not fun, crap story, bad mechanics, bad performance, toxic community, then it gets no more of my time.

RE cut scenes, if the story is dire but gameplay is ok, I will skip them. Example, ROTTR.

Fun. as said already. game has to be fun. story next but so many games these days are rinse and repeat that i can take or leave the story most times.

I concentrate on single player in most games. There are so many games out there and if you get bogged down in MP, you won't have enough time and will miss out on some great stuff. Bit different with games like FIFA. MP is the main way of playing them.
