What won't you settle without?

For me:
- Xenons
- Cruise control
- Heated seats
- Decent Bluetooth connected multimedia system
- Automatic transmission
- Estate

Disclaimer: BTW it's no good saying stuff like "air suspension lol" if all you've ever owned is a Fiat Punto. The list should be based on realistic features which you've used extensively before so know you can't live without.

Then of course you've got your real basic stuff like

• Auto AC
• power steering
• central locking

Which you might simply take for granted but there are fairly modern cars out there without these things (looking at you, MX5!)

What's this hill start nonesense? If you have an automatic transmission, the car is held on hills until you press the accelerator?

Not on particularly steep hills.

My Saab with a torque converter and Renault with CVT manages it no issues.

Even when pointing down a hill?

When downhill I put the transmission in "downhill mode". It locks out gears 2+ and avoids excesive wear on brakes.

If I need to stop whilst facing downhill I just apply handbrake.

Why are people asking for central locking as a minimum spec?

It's like asking for a windscreen - it's implicit - they come with the car.

Heck my cousin in India's Tata Nano comes with central locking.
