My average over 21000 miles = 28.76

Average since fitting a new O2 sensor (5 full tanks of fuel) = 32.39

DC2

Currently at 39.77mpg over 6322 miles. Not overly fussed for the MiTo. I know it wont get any where near the brochure figures, not that im too fussed. Bought it to drive not bimble around.

I was getting about 34 driving around the town and about 48 on the motorway but since changing to winter tyres (the Bridgestone S001 summer tyres I had on are truly awful for fuel consumption) I'm now getting about 38 in town and over 50 on the motorway.

Difference between standard shell and v-power is v-power gives me about another 2mpg.

Average about 42mpg from a tank in the 318, highest I have seen is 48mpg on a run up to nottingham.

Pretty good I thought from a 2.0 n/a.

As an average no but on a long motorway journey its far from impressive given the car in question. A 2 litre Mondeo wouldn't be far off.

Surely smaller cars with smaller engines will be sitting at higher RPM and be less aerodynamic? (Not all of them mind).

They aren't designed with motorway journeys in mind (not there primary function anyway) they are town cars are they not?

Hence the name supermini, shopping trolley etc.

2008 1.6 Focus Zetec

Averaging 41mpg at the minute, mostly A and B roads with very little motorway.

I'm averaging 33mpg over the last 3000 miles in my MR2 turbo. I think that's not too bad. It's actually better than my old non turbo MR2 which got 30mpg average. The turbo does need V-Power but they both work out to be the same cost per mile

I'm probably not trying hard enough :D

Mine 49 mpg, many motorway driving in an automatic. Very please with that. :D

What car and how are you working it out, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Average in the Cupra is 37MPG. I am sure this will go down when I can finally give it some!

Still 500 miles more until it is broken in though!

How are you finding it? Really interested as it looks epic on paper but not sure about hot hatch+dsg? The combined figure looks sweet too :D

My trip computer says 62 average. Actual is 55MPG, pretty much every tank. Last tank was 52. Maybe winter diesel has finally kicked in?

I dont get the point in little cars if they dont even give you great mpg :(

its double what you are getting? the Problem with almost all of these cars is 5th gear is faaaaaaaarrrrrrr too short, so you rev far too high on the motorway.

2litre old Mondeo vs 1.6litre Mk7 Fiesta, but to be fair, a 1.2 mk7 fiesta wouldnt get much more due to using the same gearbox and the same gearing. Plus the engine will be stressed more to get to those speeds etc.

2litre Mondeo engine is the same as what's in the Fiesta ST, and it would'nt be hitting 44mpg on a motorway for sure, maybe 34-37mpg.

It's not double what I get on the motorway?

I was just musing about how people buy these little cars with small engines which end up being not hugely more economical than much bigger engines. They only seem usefully more efficient around town but you can hardly do huge miles popping into town so the real savings are limited.

Pretty damn sweet tbh. Drives very nicely, the DSG is very refined for the commute to work and just cruising along but is lightning quick when you want to press on.

Currently sitting at 3/4 full and 110 miles done. Generally do around 15 -25 miles a day so not epic mileage.

Car is still "breaking in" though so can't give it too much beans also fuel economy should improve slightly.

Ah sorry. Im guessing you have a cruising rpm of 2000, at 70mph? The fiesta will be at 3600ish RPM, 4000rpm at 80, hence terrible mpg even when cruising. Still i think 44mpg from a 1.6 fiesta is rather good.

For the record, before i modified my car, the max MPG on the motorway was around 46-47mpg, but over a full trip it would be about 40mpg. Surely the Mondeo would be slightly worse?

Thing is "people" buy diesel's because they save them money due to high MPG's when they don't... Its basically the same as buying a small car with a little engine. They are led to believe its better by almost everyone.
