What's your music library like?

Right, I use iTunes and I tend to just play my whole library of music which is around 20gb, 300 odd albums.

I skip so many songs purely because I haven't heard them or because I got an album purely for one song and the rest of the album I can't be bothered listening too.

It drives my GF crazy as I never leave songs on :)

So I'm thinking of a complete overhaul of my music collection and deleting artists/albums that I never listen too.

Do you have albums purely for one song that you liked? I don't like just having one song from an artist, need the album. Bit weird like that!

Same here! I've got about 40gb of music and i probably listen to a fifth of that regularly. My theory was that u never know what your going to be in the mood for so ive decided to keep everything. Just out of curiosity what codec and bitrate is your music collection?

192kb around about, MP3.

I'm getting a iPod Touch soon so may clear it up a bit for that

Don't have any albums for just one song, tend to listen to most of it at some point. Plenty of stuff I haven't listened to yet though about 1400 albums in total, although I'm in the process of cutting out some rubbish.

I have about 65GB of music. Though recently I've only been listening to a very small portion of it. Check my last.fm lol.

I always listen to the full album. Rarely do I listen to individual songs.

Mine is like yours a complete mess with dollop of procastinating on the organising ontop.

When I started collecting mp3s in '99 I used to delete anything I didn't like. My downloads were also quite restricted by only having a modem/isdn connection and generally at 128kbit quality

In the last couple of years I have regressed and rarely listen to my mp3 collection, mostly just cds. A quick scan shows that I've only added 15 albums/eps and no individual tracks since 2006.

I usually always listen to my music on an album by album basis. Full album too, no track skipping. It's only if I don't have the album, or I really do only like one song on it, that I'll listen to it by itself. I just can't be bothered with sculpting a playlist, and if I skip tracks, that means I just have to find another album to put on.

I occasionally make a massive playlist with all the songs I really like in a rough genre together, but I find the randomness of song progression irks me for some reason.

EDIT: I buy CDs, use 'em like once to rip from, and never touch them again for ages. It's only recently, with my housemate having a CD player in the front room, that I've had any reason to go near them again. :/

If you have the space i would keep all your files, saves ripping them later if you need to. I now tend to play random playlists as i often forget what ive actually got! Also means i can put my cds in the loft to save some space!

I found going from a 60GB iPod to a 16GB iPod touch painful.

I used to be able to carry around my entire music collection and now I'm limited to just a selection (even more so now I'm putting more TV shows on it).

You'd think 16GB would be fine but there's always that one album that you wish you could listen to that's not on there.

Could just uncheck the albums you don't want to listen to regularly, that way you can keep them on your PC, but they won't get put on the iPod...

Yup thats what i do - save's cluttering up my I Pod Touch with stuff I dont listen to as regularly while allowing me to keep it on my PC.

Only got about 20gb of music - not much compared to some of the others on here :(

My playlists are usually a fairly random selection so I end up skipping tracks and my mp3 library is still quite a mess even with a few concerted efforts to clean it up plus when I move things it messes up my playlists even more. I very rarely listen to an album in its entirety unless I've only just bought it as I enjoy having the music varying.

Mines full of stuff i probably hven't heard of. But sometimes when its on random a song comes on i really like that i would've deleted if i'd been picky.

I've reached about 130gb now and just keep most of it on there for partys and stuff if someone else wants to listen.

EDIT: I do like Itunes ability to re-organise your music library though, means its not a complete mess like it used to be

88Gb, all tagged to ID3v1, all in order.
If my house went on fire in the middle of the night I'd grab the PC/HD before grabbing clothes.

Some of it is older but it's all relevant and I change my iPod content quite a lot.
Latest trick is to scroll the Winamp Library and pick the bands with only 1 word for a name.

I sound so much like a geek but I don't care, if was not for music I'd be dead.

Never delete music. What doesn't interest you now may interest you in the future. Some of the best tunes I have are tunes I ignored for many months/ years!

Nearly a TB of music and growing!
