Say you are selling something and you know the price you are selling your item is already at rock bottom.

Do you mind a guy haggling even more? I had a guy haggle by firstly saying

him "i'll give you £70"

me: Its £90

him: The picture is not so good the motion is blurry. I'll give you £75 and call it a deal yeah?

me: The ad says £90. Theres nothing wrong with the picture.

him: "its for my kids" man "do it for the kids" We are just watching on a laptop right now £80 is all i have.

Me: ......£90 take it or leave it. I have other people waiting.

+ 15 minutes of him peering closely at the screen and muttering to himself...

Eventually he agreed £90... but ffs tbh i almost threw him out my flat because when i know the price im selling at is a bargain i hate people being greedy and skags trying to scam me out a few more quid....and this was to try to skimp out on paying £10 or £20.

Does my head in....

Have you ever traded on the MM? :D

oh yeah. But i preface most/all sales with no haggling. Coz i always gave mahoosive discounts anyway. Just makes my blood boil. I think i got myself suspended because i was annoyed at someone else trying to scam someone else on there and i stuck my size 10s in the thread lol

For what it's worth I will get angry if someone tries to chip me £5 on a £400+ item.

Sold my old banger car last week which was listed for £250 ono. Guy who came for it tried to offer £180 and didn't want to pay more and tried to make up excuses about what needed doing to it, which was all listed in the advert to start with. I said look I'll take £220 and that's it. And he's like humming and haring and I'm like well you must want it wise you wouldn't have come for it. Tried to make out that scrap cars got for £80 and I'm like yeah cars without MOT do but this has MOT and is road worthy. He paid up in the end. :D

Bah. I always haggle. Not necessarily for a single item, but I will definitely negotiate the price. Up to a point of course, and always politely. If the other guy doesn't 'respond' then it's fine, I either take it, or if I feel it's not worth THAT much, I just leave it.

Seriously, you can always negotiate a bit, politely, and trying to be fair. Returning customer, multiple buys etc /should/ allow a bit of room.

This! Soooo much this!!

When selling an item I always assume buyers will want to negotiate and list the price accordingly.

When buying an item I always assume the seller has done the same.

But, always politely and always trying to recognize the point where the other party is ready to stand firm.

At that point it's up to me to decide if I'm willing to sell/buy at that price.

depends, i tend to haggle within reasonable limits, but i also assume all private sellers take into account people will haggle.

for example if something's market rate is £300, put it up for £350 and haggle down to £300.

when selling myself i tend to make 2 prices like that, my ideal list price and an absolute minimum i can sell it for, and i will not sell lower than the second.

it doesnt really annoy me, mostly because i plan for it to happen anyway, plus anything i'm ever selling is stuff that drops value ridiculously quickly when you buy it new anyway.

Surely a bit of a haggle is part of the fun no? Everybody likes to think they've come out "up" as a seller you should factor a little bit of wiggle room into the price.

No i don't deal with hagglers. Just ignore them until you have to lower the price a bit a few days later, id rather lose a few quid than let a "haggler" think they did "haggling" We live in Europe not some 3rd world Souq.

I tried asking a US seller on eBay if he'd budge on his £16 postage for the £12 item. Wasn't bothered if it came snail mail (it's small enough that it would cost £2) and he said no.

Watcha gon' do?

Im not the best of Hagglers,If im shopping for something expensive like a new sofa il haggle and say..can you do it for blabla if i pay cash,If they dont go for it then il just say okay thanks anyway and walk.

As for haggling in the MM,Done if a few times but i dont lowball offers,If i know something worth it then il pay it.

Offering cash is a good negotiating tool. You can also say you're willing to pay the ask if they'll throw in X at no additional charge.

It doesn't always have to be about reducing the ask.

I listed my old Sony TV on Gumtree for £120, the lowest price on ebay was £180. The amount of people expecting me to take £80 was unbelievable, I even had one guy offering £65 as he was "just round the corner and could take it off my hands"!

It sold for the asking price next day.
