Thought this might be an interesting comparison between peoples rigs.

Run a copy of 3Dmark05

Divide your score by the amount it cost you (not the original buyer or current price) to buy your CPU, Ram and GFX card

Et voila! You have your figure, higher is better in the bang for buck stakes. And it may be the only time you get to see a Sempron pwn a QX6800 :D

So my rig gets 9954 in '05

CPU - X2 3800 - 100 (2nd hand)
RAM - Corsair 3500LL pro - 105 (2nd hand)
Gfx - OcUK 7900GS - 117 (new)

So my score is 9954/325 = 30.9!

Yeah, A) because its the only one i currently have downloaded and B) because 06 is multi threaded and no games currently are, with a few exceptions

Hmm ok then :

E4300 - 77.54
2x 7300GT DDR3 with Zalmans - 51.96 the pair
Corsair XMS2 1Gb kit - 30.54

8260/159.76 = £51.70 :D

LOL, id do my mates system that i upgraded for them yesterday but i only benched 06 lol

3700+ SD 939 - £23
7300GT DDR with Zalman - yes ive been recommending these left right and centre lol - £25
512Mb PC3200 - £20

It got 2221 in 06 - the single core CPU let it down

Nobody seems to have any power, harddrives or MB's linking their kit together. How do you run benchies like that? Surely if you are doing Performance/price comparisions you've got take a holistic approach and include the bits that are neccassary/impact upon the bench marks?

I'll run mine shortly.

Its just a simple exercise! Shall we include costs of electricity,broadband etc too?

I bet I get the least bang for buck :o

CPU = 200
GFX = 96
RAM = 125

Total= 421

'05 Score = 8539

Price/Performance = 20.28 :eek:

In my defense, I bought my CPU at the turn of the year when C2D's were at there highest prices; ditto the RAM. I'm also loosing some bandwidth as my board only has a PCI-E x4 slot.

That's my excuse anyway :)

My main machine:

A64 3200+ £35 (New)
1GB GEIL VALUE £70 (Used....2 yrs ago lol)
7600 GS Premium with Zalman £45 (New)

Cost = £150

3dmark '05 = 6167

Price / Performance = 41.11

Gonna have to run '05 on the black beast later on and find out what that gets :)

1700+ Athlon XP - Free
Radeon 9800 XT - £20
1GB 2700 DDR Generic Ram - Free

Athlon64 X2 4400+ £330 (new)
2Gb Corsair XMS £150 (new)
7800GTX SLi £640 (new)

Total = £1120 (18 months ago mind you)

3DMark05 = 13120

Price / Performance = 11.71 (ouch!)

I'm sure it would work out a million times better if I used today's prices!

A64 4000+ SD @ 3Ghz (£100)
X1800 XT 256MB (£120)
1GB OCZ Premium PC3200 (£125)

8469/345= 24.54 :(

why? Would different electricity have an affect on the benchmark?

no, but it would affect the final figure wouldn't it. Your score would be lower if you used more electricity. I guess you missed his point.

x2 3800 @ 2.4 = £210
8800 GTS 320mb = £190
2gb Mushkin = £130
total = £530

3dmark05 score = 12634

bang per buck score = 23.84bpb
