Whatsapp notifications in ios 9.3

I want to mute a whatsapp group but I still want the unread message counter to show. I seem to be missing something fairly obvious as this isn't an abnormal setup, is it?

If I receive 2 messages from a muted group and a message from a single contact then the unread counter shows as 3, so it's sort of working.

Anyone else have this problem?

Huh? Sounds like it is doing exactly what you want it to do? That's how I have mine: I don't get iPhone notifications for any group messages, but still get notified for individual ones. The message counter on the app icon shows the total number of unread messages (group and/or individual).

The unread counter only works for muted groups when an unread message from a non muted group comes through. How can that be right?

Works ok for me. I don't individually mute groups, I just have the setting that mutes all groups enabled.

That might be the only option really, but I don't want all groups muted.

It's fixed now. Unsure if it was fixed in 9.3.2 or the latest whatsapp release.
