Wheel Balancing - Suggestions?

Hey.

I had a noticeable wheel wobble between 65mph - 80mph, and took my car in to have the wheels balanced.

This resolved the problem, and the car drove smooth for about a month.

I then had four new tyres fitted, and balanced. The problem came back, except I noticed the wheel wobble between 70mph - 80mph.

I took the car back to the original tyre place, and they rebalanced the wheels for me.

However, the wobble is still there. Do you think its worth taking it back again, or should I take it somewhere else?

Could it be something else other than wheel balancing? :/

Appreciate your thoughts! :)

Whats the car? Some cars are very sensitive to wheel balance and it must be done very well. Find a place with a Hunter GSP7000 balancing machine.

Nothing amazingly special, Nissan Almera Sport, 2003 plate. I wouldn't have thought it would be so sensitive lol.

Any ideas how I go about finding a place with one of the above? :)

Just call and ask.

There is a website with a list of places but its very small. Most of the 'posh' looking tyre places have one :p

So a Kwik Fit probably won't have one of these babies? :)

Hmmm, only posh tyre place that we have in the area is North East Tyres & Exhausts......

So basically, the place I went to simply can't balance my tyres finely enough?

I'm less convinced now I know its an Almera, which shouldn't be an issue, but your problems mirror the ones I had and the E39 5 Series is extremely sensitive to wheel balance.

As has been said, get it done on a decent machine, it only needs to be out a gram or 2 to create a wobble.

Bad balancing is one of my pet hates.

I also stand over them while they do it, to make sure it is done right.

if you can watch them do it check you wheel is ok when the stop it to put the weight on .. make sure its not a wheel thats had a bad bump and is not 100% round ..

They dont always do it to 100% balanced and stop when it need 1/2g ask before you have it done .. tell them to check it before removing the weights to see if its out

It could be that the place that balanced them obviously either didn't give a crap, or balanced them badly.

I'll take it to another place and have it redone, hopefully that will sort it out. Just annoying that I have to pay out again to resolve something so simple.

It's just ridiculous feeling like I am using a pneumatic drill every time I overtake someone on the motorway! :/

They are good machines, but the best machine in the world is only as good as the monkey operating it...

And it certainly seems the tyre fitting industry has more than its fair share of monkeys. I tried to strike up a conversation with the guy fitting my tyres yesterday and he couldnt string a sentance together. I gave up and watched him fit every balancing weight ever made to my wheel...

I had one that was drinking a can of stella while fitting my tyres.

Anyway, try costco too.

This.

I had the tyres balced when I had new tyres on the Neon a couple of weeks ago, It wobbled like a mad thing, took it back, they rebalaced them, still wobbled, just a bit less.

Took it to National Tyres instead, they balanced them up, told me they where 25g out just about on each wheel.

Which is a lot, they must have just meant it was placed incorrectly.

Monkeys are probably the root cause of the issue, even with cheaper machines, someone who knows what they're doing should be able to get them balanced in a half decent manner.

Make sure you get your money back for the balancing that didnt work

I'm amazed that it is actually possible to screw up whilst balancing tyres - It's the easiest job I can think of in the world (certainly easier than fitting the tyres in the first place!)
