Hi my 3 year old lad has started playing trackmania nations on his pc and he loves it, hes using one of my cheapo old game pads to play and i thought i may buy him a proper steering wheel for it , the thing is hes only small (obviously) so couldnt reach any pedals that came with the wheel set , so are there any wheels that have buttons that can be used to acceleration/brake on the actual wheel that he could use easy enough ?

thx for reading :)

In my experience a good gamepad (like the xbox 360 for windows) is much more effective than a wheel on TMN because of the arcade handling making the need to turn instantly as opposed to gradually much more vital. I played at quite a high level for some time in TMN/TMU leagues and pretty much everyone either used a gamepad or a keyboard. Although if your boy doesn't care so much about being the fastest (if he's only 3 I'm guesing not) then I'm sure its still fun.

TrackMania really really doesn't benefit at all from a wheel - it'll just hinder his progress - it's way too fast-paced, you need a keyboard/gamepad - it's designed for full-lock steering ;)

I'd agree with the above too. I've played TMN and TMU extensively and found the best controller to be a 360 pad.

Yeah i wouldnt use a wheel with trackmania, i just recently got a Logitech Driving Force pro thing and its lovely but only for things like need for speed etc.

I dont play tmnations much but i do have a uk top 20 record on one track by accident :D

it's designed for full-lock steering ;)

that's debatable ;). Playing any tm game with an an analogue (or indeed digital) input, pushing it all the way to the side will almost invariably make you skid. skidding is the enemy in TM. The thumbstick on my xbox 360 controller very rarely even touches the side.

Nevertheless a steering wheel would take way too long to react to actually play seriously

fair enough, i dont play it much myself so didnt realise a pad would be better , thx for the info guys :)
