Wheelspinning

Was speaking to NickXX a few weeks ago RWD and him playing about in his BM.

I asked if the loss of traction and therefore spinning of the wheels put as much force on the drivetrain as it would in a FWD car. He mentioned that as the wheels would already be turning when the back end started to go, there wouldn't be much strain at all (or something along those lines, my memory is shockingly bad).

Anyway, I was thinking... when I set off gently and floor it in the wet, sometimes the wheels lose traction and start spinning. Also, if I'm pushing hard around a bend and floor it, I can feel the wheels scrabbling for grip... my question is, as the wheels are already turning, does this put as much force on the drivetrain as it would if I was to do a wheelspin from a standing start?

westy, most of the time I don't bother revving the ******* off it in 1st gear. Will just change to 2nd about 2000rpm and be on my way. There has been the odd time that I've set off slowly in 1st and put my foot down, making the wheels spin while holding the revs at around 5500rpm before changing to second.

Don't do it very often at all though as I value my gearbox and tyres... and I'm not another Violent-J... woooo, 4 wheel powah drift in my FWD car :cool:

I'm terribly cautious when going around corners in the wet. I just don't trust these tyres at all.

When it's dry though, I normally open it up a bit and give it a beating.

If I'm familiar with the corner, I enter it fast, balance the throttle and power out on the exit.

Makes for much more interesting driving.

You'll see I said "I'm terribly cautious when going around corners in the wet".

I really can't see a problem with setting off from a standstill and putting your foot down in a straight line. Wheelspinning or not.

I can never tell with OcUK. All it takes is for one of my posts to mention 'speed' or 'wheelspinning' and I expect to be bombarded with replies like...

"omg agw, when will you grow up"

or

"you're a menace to society"

When I came name at least 5 members on here who've done worse things than me. I'm not even that much of a menace anymore... certainly no more than other people here.
