When are ATi going to sort out their drivers?

Seriously... imagine the performance difference if they were as good as Nvidia's. Look at the spec difference on each card, and see how well they perform against eachother, it's just silly.

Surely it would be less expensive for them to make their drivers more efficient, rather than keep pumping out better hardware, which doesn't actually perform well because of inefficient drivers?

ATi are good, I own a 4890, though I just think it's silly.

The hardware works in a completely different way. Its not as simple as just saying make the drivers more efficient. The ATI cards use a shader setup that is potentially very powerful (very different to the one Nvidia uses), however is tied by how much games utilise or are forced to utilise the power. Peak vs Average throughput and all that.

Nvidia drivers aren't exactly that hot recently either (whilst ATI have been relatively decent), even Rroff has admitted that and he's labelled the local Green Party advocate! :(

You cant just compare 1mhz to 1mhz, it doesnt work that way...look where it got Intel's P4 vs AMD64 or Core2!

If they were like Nvidia's, then we wouldn't be able to update, we'd still be stuck on an old set from months ago

Got no problems at all here with ATi drivers btw.

not been a massive fan of ATI drivers or cards the 4870 x2 I had no end of problems with sold and got a 280 in the end, but this 5870 has no issues at all and i'm very happy with it. With a bit of luck the 9.12 drivers will also give us a nice boost in performance by all accounts.

The current Beta drivers for the 5970 are completely and utterly hopeless.

You can play a game for a bit then quit to desktop and this is what you get:

"Windows explorer has stopped working , attempting to restart, Windows explorer has stopped working ,attempting to restart, Windows explorer has stopped working , attempting to restart, Windows explorer has stopped working ,attempting to restart.... "

It really is that bad.

beta drivers are really beta for ati - not like nvidia whome release 'beta' more as semi-official steps to the next full release drivers . basically with ati use latest offical, with nvidia use latest 'beta' but not other way round

I guess if it was that simple, then that's exactly what they'd be doing.

That's your personal experience, it's not a reflection of the overall quality of the drivers.

Not that I'm saying you're not having problems, but this is what sparks fanboy wars.

"LIEK *BRAND* IS BETA THEN *BRAND* DRIVERS *BRAND* *DRIBBLE* PREMIUM"

Drivers are drivers, we get some bad ones, we get some great ones, on average 95% of driver sets are perfectly fine regardless of if they're nVidia or ATi.

I really have no idea what you are talking about.

not another one....

nothing wrong with them, not saying your not having problems, some people say Nv drivers suck, does it really matter its software after all some are bad, some are great, live with it.

At the end of the day even if they are good drivers someone will have a prob with them and have a moan its the way it goes , ati are well ahead of the game atm and still ppl see cause to moan get over it and get a life

yeah ATI are messing up bigtime with there drivers at the minute

here are a few issues i have with 9.11s

AA is messed up, and doesnt seem to be working when enabled.
AF doesnt work at all, and in some games like dragons age origins for instance you can actually look around and notice the AF going from ENABLED to DISABLED lol

and finaly DX Acceleration is broken and caused driver has been recovered issues when watching Freeview Digital TV from your pc with windows media center *win7 X64* unsure of other os`s.

they better get these problems fixed.
