When are nvidia releasing the 880 series?

Hmmm

Nvidia side, original Titan, 780, 780ti,Titan black all GK110

GK104, 660ti, 670, 680, 760, 770

AMD side, Tahiti, 7870xt, 7950, 7950boost, 7970, 7970GHz ed, R9 280, R9 280x

Hawaii, R9 290, R9 290x

Not including the dual cards from each camp.

I think it is clear to see that the 780 range isn't really the one that has been milked at all, with only 4 cards based on the chip, whereas 5 for the GK014 and 7 for the Tahiti is much more milk joke worthy.

It's actually 4 for GK104 and (680/770 are the same card) and 3 for Tahiti (7950/7950B/280 are the same card as are 7970/7970GE/280X).

So you are trying to tell us that those cards with different names are actually the same card, yeah ok.

On that understanding then the GK110 is only only 3 cards then because the 780ti and the Titan black are the same card.

Also you missed the 7870xt :D

Yes, the 790/7950B/280 are the exact same card with slightly different clock speeds as are the 7970/7970GE/280X, just like the 780 and 780 GHz.

*EDIT*

Actually thinking about it the 780/780GHz may actually be labelled up as different chips.

*Another Edit*

Just to clarify, my point is that they didn't release another model then another model, etc and sell them all, each new iteration replaced the last as they were just BIOS upgrades (in the case of the 280 AMD actually recalled 7950 stock to put the new BIOS on them). The 7950B was a BIOS upgrade for the 7950, you could download and flash it yourself.

GHZ has the GK110-300-B1 version which is the same as the newer 780tis except they are GK110-425-B1 with more SPs enabled. Its a mild tweak for thermal/voltage - you can get the same clock on about 5% lower voltage than older 780s on A1 but in reality doesn't really mean much aside from mildly higher out the box boost clocks.

The other higher end 780s like the classifieds are also on the B1 spin and its been slowly creeping into the other 780 lines.

Two versions of the standard 780 wf as well, mine is the older rev1 with the longer 11.5" pcb and uses 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin pcie connector, rev 2 uses 2x 8 pin pcie connectors and is on a 10.5" pcb.

I knew about the difference in power connectors, but only found out about the difference in pcb length when i went to fit the card into the board in my new case. Id seen others using wf 780's in the enthoo primo with the reservoir bracket fitted. As my card is the older one this bracket wont fit unless you cut a section out of it.

yes it would be fair to say the 780 and the 780GHz are two cards as well so that make 5 for the GK110.

The distinction has to be made between the same chip and the same card. If the company alters the specs (clock speeds, memory speeds etc) and releases it with a new name then it is a new card plain and simple.

This has to be one of the most pedantic and geeky tangents I've ever seen on a thread - loving it!

Now, do we count it as a different card if it has the same chip on it but a larger amount of memory (780 6GB)? :D
