When are the next gen GFX cards released?

Latest rumours just suggested that there will be no flagship of 28nm coming out in 2011, not from nVidia nor AMD. However the 28nm pipe cleaners might come out earlier first.

Sorry for my ignorance - what does the phrase "pipe cleaner" mean? I've seen it a few times here.

Or by a nicer word "pilot", it means whenever you move towards a newer lithography process (e.g. 55nm -> 40nm) or whenever you move towards a newer architecture (e.g. Evergreen -> Northern Islands), you could try the new technology with lower-end products first, without risking your higher-end products sinking too much money by poor yield resulted from whatever bug/unforeseen mistakes there, thanks to the smaller die size and less complexity and challenges.

For example, Geforce 310 was launched months before GTX480, HD4770 was launched months before HD5870, and HD6870 was launced months before HD6970.

Thanks for this.

But no cards out can max metro at high resolutions so your statement is fudzilla :p

Well one game is the anomaly, and the percentage of users who will buy a new graphics card to play one game in particular is quite small.

I guess I'd be more accurate in saying, when we stop getting dreaded console ports that look terrible~!

Well it's not just one game :p There are also other candidates like Shogun 2, The Witcher 2 etc.
