Just downloading with Newsbin atm and for a period of about 3 mins the speed rocketed from 18Mb to 46Mb... Are they doing trials on users connections or could this have been a glitch with the program?

And while I'm on the subject does anyone know when we can expect to have it offered?

Anyone tried bodgeing their modems config file just to see if it's 'there' yet?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. Pity I didn't grab a screen shot. Don't know about messing with the config files though, would have thought they would change it at the exchange end rather then user end.

You would think so wouldn't you... But no, cable is an interesting beast, much more client side than ADSL. Look into how the cable network assigns you your connection speed..
(Basically a TFTP server on the network sends your router a config file with your accounts 'limits' in terms of upload and download speed, and your modem applies them.)

Interesting. I'm new to cable really, only had it for a week. Apart from the astonishing speed I don't know much about the config and tech side of things.

Thats cool, I was amazed that they did it that way when I found out.

50 Meg is gonna rock, downloads of a solid 5MB/s :)

Chances are it was a glitch in the program, I find a lot of Newsreaders do that from time to time.

Might not have been though :/

It's unlikely current cable modems would support 50mb, at least not without a major flash upgrade. 50mb usues the DOCSIS 3.0 standard, current modems support 2.0 at best out of the box.

European DOCSIS 2 can support upto 50Mb/s

So I guess it depends how they decide to implement it (virgin media = cheap... so if they can avoid having to ship everyone new modems.. they will)

*or do you have juicy insider info?*
