When are you most productive?

I never feel like I'm productive during the day, probably why I struggled in my job, just never felt awake, but after the sun sets and around the time when people head to bed THATS when I feel most productive*, like I can relax without distraction and concentrate.

I remember watching a TED talk I believe which mentioned this and how specifically children, and I guess adults too, are not always productive during the norm 9-5, also mentioned how offices are very anti-productive. I believe it was about learning and innovation, I can't really recall......but still, anyone similar to me or completely a morning person or even an after lunch type?

*I have to state I have nothing to be productive for, but the urge or feeling is there which frustrates the hell outta me because it usually means there isn't anything for me to do :p

I'm definitely more productive at night. I think it's to do with the fact that when I have only my own company I tend to disappear in to my own head and can get really deep into my thoughts.

Also, not in terms of a time of day, but I'm most productive when I have something to be upset about. If I'm going through a crisis, or am having a hard time in a certain part of my life I will push much harder in the other parts.

I may as well be dead before 4pm at least; and don't become what I consider productive or at my full capacity until between 6pm and 9pm onwards. I have to fight very hard to maintain a 'normal' rhythm and would happily be nocturnal if it wasn't for my family. :/

It's not a matter of sleep pattern per se. I can sleep 9pm to 5/6am for a month and STILL know I'm not sleeping/waking at the 'right' time. I'm just not wired for it.

When I'm busy working on a project at uni I will spend the afternoon looking at the paper, scratching my head, getting frustrated and playing FIFA out of frustration. Between the hours of 6-10 I will get more done, but not quite as much as I should. Between the hours of 10 - 4 I will invariably hammer out the days work and more and have a moment of inspiration, all the time. Im nocturnal when it comes to work I swear :(

Bear in mind this always happens and is not the result of end of project rushes :o

EDIT - Just echoed what Rainmaker has said really :)

Perhaps we could have a poooooll?

A) Early Bird
B) Midday Warrior
C) Night Owl

?

Since I'm posting this at 2am, I'm guessing most early replies to this thread are night hawks! :p

At Night, I can't do Coursework/homework during the day, I completely put it off due to games/sleep/music/mixing, however as soon as the clock turns midnight I can put some music on and dig out what I've not completed.

I feel I am most productive early in the morning. After about 9pm I just feel tired and aren't very productive. I woke up at 4:30am on Sunday and felt wide awake, so I got up at 4:45am and did 2 hours of overtime (coding). It was very productive. :)

Night Hawk here, or Night Owl if you like. I can be productive early in the morning, though I always prefer to do most of my number crunching at night. I always, no matter how hard I try to be an early bird, return to the stillness and sanctuary of the night.

Definitely a night person. Although, I've messed up my sleep a fair bit by staying with my parents for a week - could really do with a 20 hour nap.

Surprise surprise, night owl... as long as i'm not too tired. Thing is when i have no reason to get up in the morning i immediately become nocturnal. Past three or four days i've just seen the sun start to creep over the horizon as i get into bed ;)

Just like me. Too early for bed atm. ;)

Night Owl Here :) can never do anything during the day, but can easily blast out amazing assignments at night.

Night owl, just feel drawn to becoming nocturnal, I prefer to be awake late than awake during the day. If I know I don't have anything the next day I'll wake up in the afternoon.

Definitely night/early morning. I don't have a problem with working during the day, but I'm more likely to work during the night/morning as there are less distractions (kind of).
