Just a word of advice. Dont spend all your money on cpu/gfx card. Get some nice quiet fans to cool all your kit effectively. I have only just got all my fans in now 6 months down the line and wished I had them from day one.

Does anyone concur?

Yep, in fact i am just finishing off a prospective sticky for this forum detailing how to spec and what to look out for, hints and tips etc and i will include this bit of info. It is 11 pages long at the mo and may well become the mother of all speccing guides lol that of course no one will read cos its a sticky :)

Well this seems like a very pointless thread to me.

To me it looks like you can't budget then. If you built a computer with no fans, seems a bit stupid personally.

Not pointless. I had stock fan on GFX card and just the fan that came with the case. I personally wish I'd bought some specialist fans sooner. I didnt realise the importance. Just a heads up, that all.

A few of us here who spec machines for people on here on a regular basis have looked at this and decided it would be pointless because of the speed at which hardware improves. It would be impossible to keep up to date with changing prices and hardware patterns. It is much better for the person to request a spec and then we casn tailor it to their needs depending on their uses and especially if they were a first time speccer, a sticky explaining what to look for would be merely confusing :)

EDIT: Ignore me, I've just seen your thread. I thought you were talking about quoting actual hardware and prices but it's more the theoretical side. Anyways, good work mate- should be made into a sticky. Sorry for lacking confidence in you... :o :D
