Seeing a lot of games on various sites selling for £37+ why is this?

Not long ago every new game was going for around £27-30, what has changed? Is everybody copying Activision?

I've rarely seen a new game for less than £39.99 ever since the 360 came out, so I don't know what new games you've been looking at!

You've been looking in the wrong places then. All of my preorders on my favourite etailer are £32.95 (6 games), however as Margaret said the price on that website has indeed gone up to £37 but they honour the price at which the game was preordered for so i'll still get em for £33.

Has the RRP gone up, as what you guys seem to be talking about is the price the retailer is putting them at.

Maybe they are doing it to maximise profits in the current climate, and feel that they can be more in-line with other retailers rather than undercutting them?

Well I guess looking at activisions prices and packages it seems more then ever people are spending loads on games. Guess stores are just taking advantage of it.

Games seem to be cheaper than ever IMO, I got Forza 3 LCE for £40 & Borderlands for £30. There are so many games out as well that if you just wait a few wekks they halve in price. Brutal Legend is now £25 but that should drop again soon so I can wait.

If you consider that Megadrive Virtua carts cost £70 back in the day & people had to pay those prices as there was no online competition with retailers then in real terms games have never been cheaper!

games must be the only one that has such a big variation in prices atm
I would never pay for a new game that's over £30-35 let alone £50
GT5 maybe :X and maybe Demon's Soul since the damn game won't be released in EU I presume.

and MW2 is just taking the **** aswell

There is no reason for that to be more expensive, other than activition are a bunch of ****s

The price seems to be starting higher but they plummet far far faster too. If you have the patience to hold off for a fortnight you can pick up games with lots of money off.

I used to buy a game rattle it out and sell it for a pound or two less than I bought it for. It's now not worth doing that because you can buy a game on a monday for £37 and someone will be selling it new for £27 on the friday.

MW2 is a joke but hopefully the highstreet stores will get loads of unopened returns once the supermarkets confirm a price.

When I RMA mine they will get the exact reason why.

Brand new games for PS2 were around £35-40 10 years ago, it's hardly unreasonable for them to be £45 by now, with inflation and all that.

Personally I think £35 is an ideal price for console games, there were times when 360 and PS3 were in store at this price, but in store prices have ramped up quite a bit now, £43-50 seems to be the norm now :(
