When I turn on PC it says "system fan not detected - press F2 to continue" - New build

have you tried with no fans and with fans in other headers on the motherboard?

It only seems to have one, guess its a rubbish mobo, but guess thats to be expected from comit, it only had one slot for a graphics card too...which means in future I'll have to upgrade the board anyway as I do eventually want to get 2 graphics cards and have eyefinity with 3 monitors for BC2 and other games haha.

My last board had 3 places you could put fans into on the motherboard.

Well, I think I'll just go to shop later today and see if I can get a fan to sort this out. Going to try get a blue LED one thats either 120mm or 140mm and something preferably lower then 18dbs.

what model is the mobo? have you tried with just the cpu fan connected?

Just a thought, even when you buy a new fan it will not necessarily mean the issue will go away, the "crappy" HP fan might have something built in that NO OTHER fan has, its a possibility you will be buying a fan with same "F2" prompt. Just a thought.

i would have to agree. i think if all the fans are working, then the best action is to find out how to disable the error message.

Ok I'll take your advice and I'll find out what my motherboard is and then see if I can find a manual online...I've just got in tho and I did buy a new 120mm blue LED fan, going to try it now, I even asked the guy about this at the shop, he didnt really seem to have an answer.

Think part of problem is this mobo sucks for several reasons but its running a fast PC so whatever...but usually when you have good bios it makes things easier...I do remember disabling fan detection before with one of my old mobo's.

EDIT: Also even tho above someone said check bios, that was one of the first things I did before I made this post, just so you know...I tried 4 different fans and then found a 5th fan, and then I checked the bios, and then I searched online and found people posting the exact same question on other forums...one guy said he solved the problem by soldering the wire from the fan that did work to another wire on a fan that didnt work and then it worked...lol, seems like a bit messy and a lot of messing about to me.

Ya know what tho, this PC goes to sleep and has all those power management modes and I never really turn my PC off unless I restart for a windows update so am not gona stress myself out about it....had enough problems recently as you well know "paradisiac" lol...also I been and took mobo back today to shop...I'll post in other thread tho what happened.

this sounds like there is something in the way the cable is wired  do the wires look the same colour as the other fans? is there anything else on the cable (i assume where it joins the fan) that looks different to your other fans?

Seriously, everything looks exactly the same, wires and plugs and everything...cant understand it myself.

I had another search in the bios, and I can 100% confirm there is no option to disable, I promise you that, it has the most basic bios ever, and very limited information, and cant overclock or nothing lol.

Am thinking of either leaving it, or maybe sticking the HP fan in and just leaving it hanging down lol...even tho its not a problem and PC works fine, it would be nice to see it boot up, because it does boot up really fast this PC...seriously I heard people saying those SSD drives make PC's boot up in 10 seconds, this is just a sata drive but it still boots up really fast, prob 20 seconds...

To put that into perspective, my old PC took 90 seconds! for some reason the DOS stuff at the start took like 45 seconds and then the windows parts took around 45 seconds, I actually timed it several times! was so slow!

But this PC goes through the DOS is under 10 seconds before I see the windows loading part, and then am seeing desktop 10 seconds after that!!

Probably me seeing that error message and having to press F2 at start slows it down by 2 seconds aswell lol.

yeh, do you have to press F2 everytime you switch it on? if so that would proper bug me.
prebuilt computers always have limited bios settings, but most prebuilt systems arent designed to be played with.

Yeah every time I turn it on, but tbh I never turn my PC off, I've always been the same, if am in bed or out it goes to sleep, and so I never have to switch it off, I've done this for years...I usually leave PC on for weeks or months at a time and only restart it for windows updates or something.
