whats your method of isntalling drivers etc ?
mine is:
install xp
then install chipset/nforce drivers
then install graphics card drivers.
soundcard drivers
etc etc

is this correct? i've always built my PCs this way but was just curious......having a few probs with UT2004 and frames per second but i have a 4400 x2 and a 7800 gtx.

I just do any way, usually what ever cds are at the top of the pile.
Can you describe your problem a bit more.

well its weird, I have the problem for years and years but just kept on throwing money at the problem
Basically in games (not all, maybe 2-3) including ut2004, need for speed underground and most wanted series the games will pause for half a second and then carry on, every so often. I thought it could be overheating or underpowered so as I say I just kept throwing money at it. Anyways i've just learnt to bring up the FPS in UT2004 and they drop to 0 and then all the way back to 85 (capped for online play) and continues to do this.
It really does effect my gameplay.

I've ordered a new PC from somewhere else, but I'm gonna be taking it to bits as it's going in a new case and also some parts are gonna be swapped, so I just wanted to know because obviously I'll have to installed XP again on both machines, and I just wanted to get it right

That sounds like it's pausing because of an issue that some games have with dual core CPUs

Download the AMD Dual Core driver and the Windows XP Hotfix for dual core CPUs - this should help

If not set the affinity of UT to only one core
