When is 100% not 100%? (temps Q sort of)

OK, I'm just trying to make sure my cpu is healthy..

I have an E6700 running at 360x10 at 1.435v. Its never given me any problems with stability, its under water in its own loop with an EK block and a PA120.1 with 1 fan on 5v through a fan controller.

It idles in a pretty hot house at about 30-35 and if I run orthos it loads to about 45 and slowly rises to 50 as the water heats up (unless I whack the fan up) in the task manager it shows 100% of both cores.

However if I run the intel tat load thingy it shows 100% of both cores again but the temps go to mid 50s and rise to about 60?

So what is 100%??

I'm sort of bothered that the temps are highish too but I've done everthing I can to reseat/change the amount of force on the block/reapply as5 etc and I'm no w/c n00b.. plus its knocked nearly 20c off the idle temp and 10 degrees off the load.. and to be fair at 5v the system is basically passive so I probably shouldn't be suprised.

Intel TAT is probably using more of the CPU than anything else.

All the SSE sections (2, 3 etc) FPU, and anything else on the CPU.

Games only use specific sections, as do SSE etc.

I doubt there is a program that can use every transistor on a CPU at the same time ;)

yeah I suppose, I was just slightly suprised that there is such a massive temp difference between one 100% and another!

heh I just came here to create pretty much the same thread! :p

I've been using Orthos for measuring load temps while clocking my 6400 but TAT is giving me temps ~8 degrees higher than Orthos...Any idea what I should be keeping it under for 24/7 use? Currently at 57 Orthos / 65 TAT on a ninja.

heh, well one things for sure, I'm happy with my temps now I'm justabout beating folks with high end air. Thats just what I'd expect with mid range water.

Just a note to the chap above me, your intel cpu will throttle not break if it overheats so I wouldn't worry about it.
