When is a good time to buy a new PC?

I've been out of the Windows PC scene for a few years and I want to try and learn what the current situation is.

For instance I'd like to know when AMD and Nvidia are likely to release their next gen GPUs. The same with Intel and AMD for CPUs. Most of the other stuff doesn't really matter that much to me but if I'm going to get something that will last 5 years plus I'd like to wait until the next gen is out.

I believe we are nearing the end of the Nvidia 4000 series for GPUs but I have no idea when it comes to CPUs.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you.

Nvidia are releasing new GPU's in January, starting at the high end with more mid range parts confirmed in the coming months.

I'm not too sure about AMD on the GPU front, there have been some leaks but we should know more in the very early new year.

Platform wise, AM5 with an X3D CPU is your best bet for purely gaming, but I would wait for stock levels and pricing to become more sensible on the newly released 9800X3D.

It does depend on your budget however, and what resolution/refresh rate you're targeting, and of course the sorts of games you play.
Thank you. I'll be running Linux and Windows 11 in dual boot. The Linux side of things will be programming mainly and the Windows 11 side of things will be gaming.

In terms of resolution I'd probably either go 1440p or 1080p. I don't need ultra crisp text or anything. Games wise I think the most demanding one I play regularly is Total War: Warhammer 3.
When you need one for your use cases.
Yeah, that'll be pretty soon. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to buy right before a new generation is announced.
