When it's a mac apparently...

Just had a nice discussion with someone on another forum about this and apparently i'm a microsoft fanboy because I suggested his mac may actually be a PC! (along with those running linux and Unix)

The power of advertising...:p

So is a mac a PC...:p (Yeah i'm bored...)

(This is not meant to be a mac vs PC thread, although discussion if you think a mac isn't a PC is welcome...)

but mac still is a pc? it does the same things.. its just a "locked" copy of pc? oh.. and a huge price tag.. no im not hater.

Technically, yes, a mac is a "PC" (as in Personal Computer).
But most people use the term "PC" when talking about a computer that isnt a mac.
I use PC/Mac to differentiate types of computer when talking to other people even tho i know that it's not technically correct because it avoids confusion.

A "Mac" is merely a brand of PC, just the way sony, HP, acer and Dell are "brands".

They all come under the title of "PC" as in personal computer.

The only difference is that the "mac" brand includes the manufacturer's own OS.

We don't generally call PCs with windows on it "A Windows" because it's a PC.

Additionally, when I can run OSX on my "Windows PC" hardware, it goes to show that "mac" simply is just a PC with an operating system made by apple.

a mac is a pc

my macbook is my laptop

only people who care too much about image go around bragging about there mac and making sure they mention the brand of there pc every second to show everyone how much they spent on it

its the same as how people with jags always mention ''oh well i was out in the jaaaag the other day when blah blah blah happened'' instead of ''i was out in my car''

I always took it to just be PC = Personal Computer
Be it an IBM compatible, Tandy, Electron, Mac, C64 or whatever*.

However these days it tends to be taken as short for a desktop/mini tower as an IBM compatible, although the Mac is definitely still a PC just not often referred to that as it makes it seem so common to call it a PC for those that paid the "Mac tax" to get something that looks pretty:p**

*Anyone else remember the old Tandy's and CPC's etc?:)

**I suspect that'll get me skinned by the Apple users on here

I don't understand why this argument is still around. Just call it a computer and if you can move it around easily it's a laptop. They all achieve the same thing at the end of the day. Jeez!

Give the people with Macs something to hold on to! :p

Not really suprising some Mac owners are confused about what their machines are, especially with Herr Jobs at the helm of Apple. This is the guy that in every keynote he has ever made basically talks like Apple are in some sort of majority in the marketplace.

The rest of us on planet earth know better though.

Heh heh, you reminded me of this:

I love apple stuff, but I have windows based pcs at home as it's what I've always used. But I just call it my laptop/desktop. It's easier than saying the brand and my desktop is a mix of bits anyway! Heck, even my iphone is referred to as my "phone". It's just so much easier.
