When is the official WOTLK release?

There is no 100% official date yet. Best guess is sometime before christmas, maybe even the end of november.
The pre content patch may hit in the next month or so. They have no real reason to rush the expansion so they wont do it just to get it out before warhammer for example.

I work in the games industry with lots of game publishers and retailers, that is the date they told me it would hit stores. No doubt it's subject to change, but that's the date that is doing the "round robin"

They will release it when they think they can bring as many people back as possible from warhammer online... So i would imagine that b;ehind the scenes they will be waiting to see what happens there and waiting to strike If they release it too early after the WAR release they risk loosing a lot of people not playing lichy form the start as they will be trying out war, and the less poepl,e you get at the release the lesshype and the less free advertising

We will probably get a more realistic idea of the date at Blizzcon which is on the 10th and 11th of October.
At least another month before there is even a hint of a date. Anything before that is just speculation.
