I want to put Plex in the lounge and need a device with optical out! The ROKU 4 seems a perfect fit.... except it's still not been released in the UK!

I'd ideally not want to get an imported (US) version with the plug/power issues and uber ramped up price!

Any reason in particular you need the 4?

The only real need for it is if you want to stream the currently very limited selection of 4K content, otherwise it's a virtually identical experience to the Roku 3/Stick (which in turn weren't a massive leap from the Roku 2).

Edit - ah sorry, you want optical out.

Yes, unfortunately my setup requires an optical output, and I don't want to replace amps etc :(

note: I have a ROKU 3 in the garage which works nicely out there, and an LG TV in the bedroom which has Plex on it...

You can buy an inexpensive adapter to give you optical out, it will be a lot cheaper than a ROUKU4.

Well, I'd be wary of creating "issues" getting an optical output out of an HDMI output. And 4K compatability would be nice given my aim is to get a 4K TV towards the end of the year...

What issues are you expecting? While i'm sure you have a good reason to be doing so, it's unusual to find someone who is planning on using 4k to be clinging like grim death onto a 30? year old optical interface.

To update my amp will cost me £3-400 for questionable gain... Personally I would cling on like grim death to £3-400, when spending it will give me possibly no improvement ;)

So your plan? £300 for an amp + £50 for a Roku 3?

My plan - £100'ish for a Roku 4 or Minix... ;)

ps: As regard issues, I've seen people commenting on periodic cut outs and pops/crackles and the like using HDMI->optical converters...
