When is Volta going to be released?

Which was always on Nvidia's roadmap. I have no idea why people suddenly thought it was coming out this year


I think Nvidia will be releasing a Volta based Drive PX unit soon. they have already publicly accounted it, just waiting on mass availability in Q4:

The article talks about 16nmFF+ but looks like they have switched to a newer 12nm process.

So like Pascal, Volta will appear first publicly with autonomous car applications. The gaming chips will follow after that, probably Q1 2018.

Because people went by the leaked slides (and failed to notice a couple of things) and not the information that was presented in the actual conference where those slides were actually used.
 
with news that volta will be a 12nm part I really do not think we will see much in the way of performance increases say over a 1080ti. which could mean that the 1080ti`s could be around for sometime.

there is no 12nm TSMC, it's just a 4th revision for it's 16nm, it was 16FF, then 16FF+, then 16FFC, now 16FFC+, but instead of calling that, TSMC calls it 12FFC, and ppl mistook it for 12nm, because you know for the 12...
 
TSMC themselves are pushing it to be called 12nm to be competitive with customers to 12FDX, etc. no different in many ways to how 16nm is effectively just 20nm with finfets and "10"nm is basically anything sub 19nm planar depending on who you talk to.

This is correct. Amazing how marketing bull creeps into something that should be simple fact and stats. Everything is spin.

Whilst I don't believe the 1080ti will be quite the stellar card that the 980ti is, it will be around for a while now. It's not quite Intel levels of iterative improvements on GPUs yet, but it's not far off.

If you follow that line of reasoning then "Volta Ti" is the one to watch but imho its over 18months away and 1080Ti will be around for a while.

Yea my logic, is Nvidia would not affect 1080ti sales which is a newly released card by release any new cards any time soon.

Maybe if Vega is any good they might refresh?
 
Titan XV is likely 12-18 months away.
1180 is likely 9-12 months away.

One of the things it depends on is how good Vega is. If it is very good and beats 1080Ti, they may rush 1180 out earlier with a paper launch type thing where it will be short on stock. A lot of it depends on TSMC's so called "12nm process", Vega performance and HMB2 availability IMO, because I bet they have the design for Volta ready now.

Kepler to Maxwell saw very significant improvements on the exact same 28nm process.

An improved process + architectural improvement and I see no reason why we couldn't get another 30-50% increase at least. Plus they can go bigger on the die sizes, too. GP104 is only 314mm² and GP102 only 471mm².

I fully expect 1080Ti-like power for $350-400 in H1 2018.

Although I love my 1080 Ti I still say maxwel was the dogs ******* as it was on the same 28nm process as Kepler they had to do some magic.
780 Ti - 980 Ti was a 65%+ bump in performance with a roughly 200mhz advantage to the 980 Ti. 1000mhz vs 1202 On the980. LESS cuda cores 2880 vs 2816 and same bandwidth and slightly more transistors.
However 980 Ti - 1080 Ti is another 65%+ though the 1080 has a 600mhz advantage 1202 vs 1800, 700+ cuda cores much more memory bandwidth and 50% more transistors. So 980 Ti in terms of specs was worse off vs the 780 Ti where as the 1080 Ti is better off than the 980 Ti though performance difference is the same
 
It feels like Volta will be with us before I get my custom cooled 1080Ti. Man I hate waiting :( :mad: :p

And you dont think the same will happen again with Volta? Get announced and people will have 3 months to wait for their AIB cards.

Seems like the Nvidia done thing now.

It is always the same regardless of NVidia or AMD. It was tongue in cheek really and me just expressing my impatience, hence the emotes at the end.

AMD had big stocks quickly with their 480s from memory. We will see how their next card goes.

Nvidia and AIB have been a shambles since Pascal. I mean EVGA had only 10 cards coming to the world market per day several weeks after launch date.

I still hadnt received my FTW which i pre ordered the first day I could and the Titanxp had been launched and was available so i bought that instead.
