Hi guys,

I looked at a laptop before Christmas that was having issues with Office. Having tried to uninstall it in the usual way without success I looked online for a solution. I tried using the Microsoft ‘Fix it’ download for this problem and although that does appear to be fixing it for me, the laptop restarts on its own before the utility finishes?!

Bit of a strange one I know but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this before? Under normal operation the laptop is fine. However, as soon as I go to uninstall/install Office, I hit a wall.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I had an issue installing it once when there was a problem with my .net framework, there have also been updates for it lately as well so maybe try those?

I'd complete uninstall Office with Revo Uninstaller portable. Then follow these instructions on how to manually uninstall. After that, restart computer, run CCleaner's registry cleaner. Then run Windows Update, and restart after installing any updates before reinstalling Office.

It could even be a faulty HDD, where Office just happens to be installed in the bad sectors, so can't uninstall or repair it. Test the drive just in case.

I've done all my scans; ccleaner, chkdsk etc. and still no joy. I'm inclined to think it might be a virus because when using either microsoft's fix it or revo the machine just restarts - all on its own
