When overclocking becomes rather silly

So i'm doing a 2500K rig for a mate, chip just won't do 4.5Ghz without 1.38v, anything less will fail prime/ibt etc.. Hes got an TRUE and wants the apache fan to run at 7v, however at 1.38v temps are hitting 83C under prime load with the central heating on and 86c with IBT, about 77C and 79C at 'normal speed'.

Now for the killer, the damn chip does 4.4Ghz all day long at 1.34v and hits 71C tops with the fan at 7v.. still trying to convince him that the difference is literally nothing and the extra heat/noise/degradation is not worth it.

Why doesnt he just stick a more powerful fan such as an akasa viper on the cooler. Being a PWM fan, theres no need to have it running at 7v as it will speed up/down according to cpu temp. And it's only in something like prime/ibt where the load will be at 100%. But i can understand the point about an extra 100mhz, backed my 920 down from 4.2ghz to 4.0 as the difference for normal use is so small.

Run some CPU benches like Cinebench R11 @4.4 and 4.5Ghz, the difference will be soo tiny. Maybe then he will see that the extra 100Mhz isn't worth the extra heat/noise/power usage ETC... certainly not worth buying a better fan for.

unfortunately i had similar problem with my 2500k, doing 4.5 is fine with 1.35v in the first place, past IB and Prime etc over a day, and blue screened on me when playing MW3. eventually had to do 1.355v to get it stablized. just unlucky with the chip i suppose?
