OP's been working on the basis of the three little pigs so a solid house would be better. Sadly the folk that live there know that a house would still be damaged / destroyed with the strength of tornados so they build with timber which is cheaper than with brick cos they know they'll have to replace it at some point.

Sorry, but that’s just wrong. There are many construction methods/materials that can be utilised to create a much stronger house capable of withstanding high winds.

Around 1200 a year in the US
