Does Intel have any page that is kept up to date to display when certain products - specifically processors- hit end of line? or even when they're predicted to be made end of line?

Ah didn't notice that site gives you that info on that, cheers :) Had someone claiming something was EOL when it wasn't and i knew it wasn't but wanted to check :p

I suppose it depends what your friend really meant by EOL.

Click on a lot of the older processors and it till says "Launched".

The only other status I can see is EOIS (End of Interactive Support - tech support).

The older processors aren't technically EOL as they're still supported but they're no longer manufactured.

Wasn't a friend :p was a supplier who was claiming the Pentium G840s were end of line, when i knew they werent as every other supplier was quoting for them fine....plus they were only released like 6-9 months ago!

Just don't like it when i'm fed BS by people in hope of under cutting others by speccing lesser and cheaper products :D

The G840 should be available for a while yet but the end is in sight:

Intel discontinues Pentium and Core-branded desktop CPUs

Quite disapointing that they'll have such a short life span, we've currently got 62 of those G620Ts and they're perfect for school computers, really low power and more than quick enough for pupils doing Adobe CS5 work and windows movie maker video activities.

Either way the processor he tried to sell me was also in that list so i guess it can't be down to that, looks like we'll be stuck spending amost double on i3s in the future then :(

EDIT: Damnit, Intel G840 - £45 ex vat... next cheapest intel processor i3 2100 £75 ex vat, what a jip. I hope they release something new to replace the budget range. (the price difference in cpu = nearly £1000 per classroom spec!)

I guess i could switch to AMD and their current llano processors, but the only major downside to AMD is there damn chipsets, they're utter crap when it comes to drivers and windows deployment solutions! >_<

Work are still getting supplies of G840 machines from Lenovo. When they stop getting stock we'll likely get a no cost bump to whatever the new equivalent is. G850 I guess.
