I have a KDL40X3000 which was a great LCD in its time.

Want to replace it for a 46" and go 3D. Been looking at the Samsung D8000 and Panasonic VT30, but I am apprehensive to go 3D, given that I hear "Full HD" passive Samsung Reald sets are out next year, and then there is non glasses 3D.

Is it worth waiting for better passive 3D?

Current LCD is still pretty good (was Sony's flagship few years ago), so I would probably not update for the sake of 2D for now. My next jump would be for 3D I think.

I do like the idea of the LGs, but I would like to wait for "full HD" passive 3D to see how that works

I took the plunge, though more for the 2D quality. Been demoing the 46D8000 and 50" VT30 recently at various places with some of my 2D and 3D BluRays. Was blown away by the VT30 and got one, so as someone says, I will view 3D as a bonus.

Though my 40" LCD is good, the combination of amazing PQ + increased screen size was too much!
