Hi guys, I've been planning on getting a system for a while now, but whilst the prices dropped slightly after christmas they seem to have risen again.

When would be the best time to buy in your opinion - to get the best deal?

Should I wait a few weeks or a month or two - or is now as good a time as any?

Just go for it, no matter when you wait till there's always a better deal just around the corner.

I'm so wanting to get a new system because I'm having withdrawal symptoms from not building a PC for like 2 years now, as I bought my current main rig for £180, best deal I've got for a new system, but it just screams NOOB on the case tbh. :(

If you can, go for it now, there's no major hardware revolution coming soon, so just buy buy buy!

Truth is that 99.999999% of people wouldn't fully use (bar games) their rigs anyhow, one of the newer intel quads with 4GB of RAM should last you aaaagggeeesss. Go buy one :D

I've come to the realisation that taking future upgrades in mind is a waste of time when buying a new PC, sure if you're a compulsive upgrader it's fine but within 1-2 years i'd expect the architecture to be totally different.

For example i bought my PC 3 years ago and now DDR ram, dual core 939's and AGP graphics cards are more expensive than modern improvements.

New formats are coming out all the time so just go for what's good for the price now.

There's never a good time to buy. There's always something else around the corner amd teh rise in price is due to the strength of the pound. the pound is not going to rise any time soon.

the rule of thumb is 3 years after your current pc.

and dont buy NEW items as the value drops exponentially - your best off getting something that has been out 6 months for many reasons but 3 of the main reasons being:

improved firmware/software release
price drops
a better understanding of which brand is the more dominant.

I'm one of those 0.0000000001%

And I'm not taking the upgrade path or new tech into account so much really, just how terrible the market and prices seem to be lately. I guess it's all about the £ to $
