I want to buy a new 55" TV (this one - http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue...hings-compatibility-dark-grey-silver/p2889451). Do people think it would be worth holding off a little bit until closer to Christmas or are the deals as good as they are going to get?

If anyone has any recommendations for a 55" around £550 I'll be happy to entertain them, but that seems like the best bang for buck!

This thread smacks of "HELP ME TIE MY SHOES INTERNET I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ALONE BEEP BOOP BOP" but hey ho!

I'd say wait until black Friday and the weekend after it and see if you can get a decent offer. We got our TV the Saturday after for about £75 less than it was a week before from John Lewis.

When to buy a new TV? Before year 2000 as TV died after that :p Reality carp such as Popstars, Pop Idol/Academy, X Factor etc taking over the top 40 charts. Then Celebrity Jungle, causing Peter Andre's "Mysterious Girl" to appear in bloody 2 Now albums :( Sure there is Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones / Hunger Games etc now, but seriously, pick your battles. It's a fraction of what we had back in the 80s and 90s even though we only had 4 channels back then!

Still love a good film though and got lots of boxsets.

I find online / Youtube more engaging as it's blogs, how-to vids, product reviews, game streams, drone races, and it's all done by real people. Of course you also have funny cats :-)

You can also probably wait for end of season clearance sales when shops usually clear out displayed gadgets. Might knock off a few more quids off the price. Plus pretty sure John lewis give the same length of warranty on those as well.

Make sure you take out the 5 year warranty with John Lewis, Tv's these days don't last long. ;)

I have gone through 2 Tv's in the last 10 years and I will be looking for another one soon due to pink speckles appearing on high contrasting back grounds.

55 inch Samsung plasma purchased in 2011 from best buy! :(

Shove a bit more coal on the boiler whilst you grumble, there's a good chap.

Oh and don't forget to pick up the Radio Times tomorrow.
