Well AFAIK it wont be available to consumers until Jan 30th anyway?

Most "mission critical" drivers are already available, more so for the x86 variant. Printers, scanners and other miscellaneous peripherals might take a bit longer though.

As has been said above, it's not available to consumers until the end of January.
If you want to be an early adopter go for it then - Vista is nice and stable from release as was Win2k, WinXP...
The "wait for a SP" crowd are probably too young to remember when you really did have to wait for a SP before you dared make the move.

yeah you really dont need to be waiting for sp1, people being anti ms as usual. Been running vista for a long time now and its all good :)
You just need to make sure all the hardware you have is supported, and most common items are.

I was'nt being "anti ms", iv'e had RC1 and RC2 on one of my rigs. I just see no practical reason for spending large wedges of hard earned for an os that is not much different from XP(from a use point of view). As for hardware, perhaps you can tell me anyone that has installed Vista on an NF4 raid aray yet? or any raid setup for that matter.

i wasn't having a go at you in particular. And raid has got nothing to do with sp1. that would be drivers

Yes people have done it with the NF4 raid array, they just needed to load the drivers properly. As for any array, well lots of people have.

I've not decided if i'm going to chance it at release or wait, I have got 2 months to make the decision though :p

Is there going to be separate versions for x86 and x64 or has it been rolled into one complete package with support for both?

i hope as soon as it is released. I've got RC2 to try still, will install that this weekend. Money might be a problem though and unsure if i want to go 64 bit or not. the RC2 of 64 bit wouldn't install
