hi, this may seem like a silly question, but i've been looking through my car recipts etc and havent found any history of a cambelt change, my car is a 1998 206 almost at 70k miles, is it worth getting it changed? is there a way of telling if it needs changing?

If it needs changing how much would it cost roughly?

Thanks for any help

service book should tell you, or just look online, i would imagine its easy enough to find with a quick google :]

Some cars dont have cam belts. You cant really tell when it needs changing (by looking) it will just break and possibly do the same to your engine. You also want tensioners at the same time as the belt although they are normally included in the kits

If theres no history of it being done then I would not risk it. The costs of rebuilding the engine will far surpass the price of the belt change. Price may vary dependant on engine but I wouldnt say around the £200 mark is too far off.

hmm apparently its best to change it every 50k so i think i should get it changed, i heard they can be expensive though :/

206 1.4 is 80k apprently

Expense all depends on individual cars;

Vectra £230
Omega £150
Scenic (early) £400
