When to hand in notice?

Hi guys,

I've recently started with a new employer, but I really don't see myself doing it for more than 6 months without going mad.

But to make matters worse, having signed my contract and started, they have then decided to tell me that I cannot take leave from 1st-14th of every month, and no leave at all in June... It's worth noting that this is not written in my contract.

I've now been offered a senior role with a previous employer, and I'm going to be giving my notice tomorrow.

But what I cant decide is, should I give it first thing in the morning, and have to spend the day answering questions to workmates and other staff, and prehaps be given crappy jobs for the 2 weeks of my notice.

Or should I hand it over to my boss at the end of the day when nobody else is about, and face the music the day afterwards?

I have included in my resignation letter a request to waive notice, but I do not expect them to do so. What I did wonder though, was could I prehaps use the hidden holiday terms as leverage?

Any advice appreciated :)

Any chance you could do it at lunch?

I'd explain the decision by telling people what you told us. They didn't tell you about a very restrictive leave policy, and you've been offered a better role elsewhere :)

In the morning book off your holiday time for the end of the month, then once it has been approved hand in your notice?

Also if your still in the first 6 months, and so still on the probation period, you can normal quit/get fired very easily and not have to work any notice period.

He'd still have to work the time period.

As far as explaining goes, I think I will go with your advice. The only problem is, I share my lunch break with my boss (as far as timing goes)

I've worked for 1.5 months now, so I certainly cant walk out, and I wouldnt either way as its not particularly professional.

What I would like to see though, is if I could shorten my notice by reminding them of their somewhat demanding, and not contractually bound leave restrictions?

Very bizarre leave restrictions, what company is it? If you dont want to say, what sort of company is it?

City Electrical Factors, large electrical wholesaler.

I can think of no reason why they should have such bizarre restrictions, even the June one doesnt make sense it's not as if June is a busy time for electrical wholesalers.

Get out while you can!

First 14 days of the month is month end accounts, and June is their financial year end for accounts.

I'm certainly going to get out while I can though. If they throw bizzare leave terms in outside of contract, I cant imagen what else may happen further down the line :)

Still totally bizarre.. everyone elses financial year end is March, and spending HALF the month, every month, on month end accounts? Random.
