When to upgrade mobo-cpu-ram ??

Ok, so i have some money to upgrade mobo-cpu-ram. But i wanted to check the timing of my upgrade. Is there any serious issues with buying mobo-cpu-ram now?. I remember my mate buying an am2 socket athlon, and then 2 weeks later core2duo came out (he did no research). I didnt want that happening to me, but i havent been keeping apace of when new sockets/processors/ram are comming out. If anyone could shed some light on that and ease my fears that i might be buying at a stupid time i would be greatful. Plus, im sure a lot of people will be thinking of upgrading around this time, so i think it should be of relevance for others too.

my current spec is:
athlon 4000+ san diego
asus a8n-sli premium
corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX CAS2
7900gtx

I was thinking of buying a q6600... so i was just gonna buy one of the OcUK bundles that had that processor in it.

penryn CPUs and Nvidia 9XXX series graphics cards are suppose to be due soon.
for MB, just stick with a DDR2 board for now as DDR3 offers no real usable performance gain.
