Hi all,

I bought this excellent PC 6 months ago...

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...-pc-intel-core-i5-8600k-4.8ghz-fs-1bv-og.html

I upgraded the graphics card to a 1080 and put 16gb of ram in as an upgrade whilst ordering it.

I upgraded my monitor from a 1080p 60hz to a 1440p 144hz which is awesome, the following month. Most games I play run on max settings (Destiny 2) and the FPS never drops below 75 at the most intense times at 1440 max settings (average is 100fps I think).

I will be planning the move to a 4K monitor next year, and obviously 4K gaming is very demanding. I also have the dilemma that I love playing at 120-140fps minimum so I reduce my settings in game to reflect that.

I want the games to run at max settings at the above FPS but don’t know if I should upgrade the graphics card now to something a little bit better, or wait until next year and go big on a better PC.

I do want a 4K gaming experience but understand the power to play 4K at the FPS I want will be expensive.

Curious to know peoples thoughts?

Wahey, @orbitalwalsh - i think you missed a fragment of his soul when totalling that up. :D

The above would certainly be a great 4k experience - and the RTX 2080 would power it's way through 1440p gaming. But as you're not planning to upgrade until next year i'd wait for AMDs Navi release and see what that brings to the party and how it affects prices - if at all :/. Nvidia's pricing sucks and if you're not getting a 4K monitor until next year there's little point lining their pockets until you're ready to commit and seen AMDs offering.

Additional: If you stick with the 1440p monitor and just upgraded the GPU you would have greater/smoother FPS and wouldn't have to adjust any settings for 144Hz gaming - plus you get to keep all of your soul (but still a luxury upgrade). 4K looks great but, personally, I would prefer a faultless/smoother 1440p 144Hz experience over a tweaked 4K 144Hz experience for that amount of money. Horses for courses...
